503 Error When Logging Into UsenetServer

If you receive a 503 error when trying to connect to the UsenetServer NNTP server, it usually means the maximum number of allowed connections for your account has been reached. Most newsreader software applications will open multiple connections at once to improve article access speeds. If your client exceeds the limit, the server will return a 503 error.

Steps to Fix a 503 Error

  1. Close Your Newsreader Completely
Fully exit the application, not just minimize it. This step helps terminate any lingering connections that may still be active.

  2. Wait a Few Minutes
It can take several minutes for the server to recognize that your previous connections have closed. Waiting briefly may resolve the issue without further action.

  3. Check Your Connection Settings
Make sure your newsreader isn’t configured to open more connections than your account allows. UsenetServer supports up to 20 SSL connections. Using fewer connections may reduce the likelihood of encountering this error.

  4. Restart Your Device
In some cases, network or software issues may persist until the device is restarted. A full reboot clears lingering connections at the system level.

  5. Verify You Aren't Logged in From Multiple Locations
Using the same account across multiple devices at once can trigger a connection overload. Try logging in from just one device at a time.

  6. Use SSL Ports Where Possible
SSL connections help avoid interference from local networks and provide encrypted access to the server. Supported ports include 563 and 443.
