What Are .001, .002, and .003 Usenet Article Segments?

Usenet articles are frequently broken into smaller numbered segments before being posted. These segments—.001, .002, .003, etc.—are part of a standard Usenet practice to improve reliability and access over time.

Breaking articles into parts allows for better propagation and helps maintain data across different servers for extended article retention.

UsenetServer supports modern newsreaders and tools that automatically handle segmentation and reassembly. When all article parts are present, they will be combined into a single item. If segments are missing, PAR2 recovery data can be used to fill the gaps.
