Troubleshooting SABnzbd Connection Issues with UsenetServer

If SABnzbd is not connecting to UsenetServer, use this guide to resolve the issue step-by-step. Most connection errors are related to incorrect settings, authentication problems, or local network issues.

1. Check Server Settings in SABnzbd

Go to Config > Servers in SABnzbd and confirm that your server configuration matches the following:

  • Server Address: news.usenetserver.com

  • Port:

    • 563 (SSL)

    • 443 (SSL, alternate)

    • 80 (non-SSL, not recommended)

  • SSL: Enabled (recommended)

  • Username/Password: Enter your UsenetServer credentials

  • Connections: Up to 20

If any of the above is incorrect, edit the entry and save the changes.

2. Test the Connection

Use the Test Server button in SABnzbd’s server configuration section. If it fails:

  • Double-check that SSL is enabled for ports 563 or 443

  • Confirm that your username and password are accurate

  • Try lowering the number of connections to 5 and test again

3. Review SABnzbd Logs

Navigate to Status > Show Logging in SABnzbd. Look for errors such as:

  • "[Errno 11001] getaddrinfo failed"

  • "[Errno 10061] No connection could be made"

These may indicate a DNS issue or a blocked port. Try switching between ports 563 and 443.

4. Reboot and Retry

  • Restart SABnzbd

  • Restart your computer or NAS

  • Power cycle your modem/router

This can help resolve temporary network conflicts or DNS issues.

5. Disable Firewall or Antivirus Temporarily

Some security software may block Usenet traffic. Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus to test whether SABnzbd can connect. If it works, add an exception for SABnzbd.

6. Try Alternative Software (Optional)

If the issue persists, you may want to test with another newsreader such as NZBGet. If that also fails to connect, it confirms a network or account issue.

7. Contact UsenetServer Support

If you've tried all of the above and are still having trouble, please contact UsenetServer support with the following details:

  • The exact error message

  • A screenshot of your server settings (excluding your password)

  • Your operating system and SABnzbd version
